Week 13 Day 1

 

importune

격식 성가시게 조르다 = pester / 사람을 들들 볶다

ultimate

궁극[최종]적인, 최후의 = final / 최고[최상/최악/최대]의 / 비격식 (~의) 극치

격식 결국 …이 되다[생기다]

emit

격식 (빛·열·가스·소리 등을) 내다[내뿜다]

격식 지하의

premise

격식 (주장의) 전제

Longman    (also premiss British English) a statement or idea that you accept as true and use as a base for developing other ideas

premise that

 

The idea that there is life on other planets is the central premise of the novel.

the premise that an accused person is innocent until they are proved guilty

Instead, it will work off the premise that dinosaurs never disappeared.

permeate

surmise

격식 추측[추정]하다 = conjecture / 추측, 추정

Longman    formal to guess that something is true, using the information you know already surmise that 

 

When she came in, he didn’t look up, so she surmised that he was in a bad mood.

His guilt was a matter of surmise

그가 유죄라는 건 순전히 추측이었다.

Her surmise about the weather turned out wrong. 

날씨에 대한 그녀의 추측은 빗나갔다.

 

curtail

격식 축소[삭감/단축]시키다

Longman    to reduce or limit something = cut

severely/drastically curtail

repress

(감정을) 참다[억누르다/억압하다] = control / 탄압[진압]하다 = put down, suppress

2 if someone represses upsetting feelings, memories etc, they do not allow themselves to express or think about them 

3 to control a group of people by force

sober

술 취하지 않은 / 냉철한, 진지한 / 정신이 들게[냉정해지게] 만들다, 냉정[진지]해지다
